Our friend Chris joined the 40-year-old club a couple weeks ago, and to celebrate, Penny threw him a surprise party. After soccer games on Saturday, we headed back to the old neighborhood. First we dropped the boys off at the Elsmo's for a long overdue visit. They spent the night and the entire next day there, and were absolutely in heaven. Then Brian and I went over to the Frig's for a nice, relaxing night and to start throwing Chris off for his big surprise. Chris & Brian woke this morning and decided to go for a mountain bike ride. A big long mountain bike ride. Chris could not for the life of him, figure out why Brian was trying to start their day so late (he got it once he realized what we all had up our sleeve). We gave them a few minutes to get out of town, then high-tailed it into action to start getting ready for the party. Penny left no detail behind in planning the party. And Melissa catered the event, which was, as usual, amazing. Actually, this may have been one of my favorites. I'm already looking up recipes for pork rillettes and salmon rillettes. It was so delicious, and I need more. Brian did a great job keeping Chris away, and I think Chris was truly in awe as he stepped into his backyard, filled with people who were so happy to be there to celebrate with him. It was all, perfect.
