Moments 01 18 - Week 04

week012618a
After a long week of exams, it was Parent Night at the swim meet tonight. He’s having such a great year in school and in swim, and we are so incredibly proud of this guy.

Ok, fine. It's pretty.

week012618c
It's got to be really rough being this handsome.

Reunited! C was on a 3-day, 2-night school trip this week. They came back Friday afternoon. He said he didn't even miss me. Can you believe it? (He actually was surprised about that, which was kind of sweet. I guess. My baby is growing up.)

Moments 01 18 - Week 03

week011918a
About six weeks ago, my mom sent a link to photos she scanned and uploaded. I finally got around to checking them out and realized, that in almost every single photo of my childhood, my eyes are closed. Or, I’ve got a totally annoyed look. Classic. There were some good ones though, including this gem. Enjoy!

Cold but sunny. A great day to watch our friend Aaron do a little ice racing.

I'm pretty sure she would not survive in the wild.

Moments 01 18 - Week 02

week011218a
On Sunday, Brian took the boys skiing. I stayed behind -- I just wanted a day to be able to do things at a slower pace, and it felt great. I also took the dogs out on a celebratory walk since the temperatures hit 30 degrees outside. We all needed the fresh air.

Now, I know Brian and I do not have big kids. But I thought this photograph from C's basketball game was hilarious.

This never happens. But it's been so unbelievably cold. And there was a fire going. Cuteness overload.

Ringing in the New Year.

week010517c
The morning after at Fuel Cafe.

week010517d
The boys went back to school on Tuesday, so we had a day to explore. Loved spending time at my happy place with them.

week010517e
We even got to celebrate this guy's birthday since it was the day they left.

week010517f
We have a basketball player! My mom's dreams are finally coming true with the youngest grandchild. He absolutely loved it.

The last month and a half has been a whirlwind of fun. We've been able to spend time with so many people and it's been completely awesome. The last of our guests left this morning, and I'm so sad about it. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by so many creative people who are fun, kind, motivating and inspiring. When Yvonne (and Greg) leaves, I always feel so refreshed and alive. It's the only way to explain it.

We met Bill & Raluca at Fuel for brunch on New Year's Day. Afterwards, we came back home and Greg made pork and sauerkraut -- a tradition of Yvonne's to bring good luck in the new year. Bill brought a couple growlers which we enjoyed with it. Sadly, we had to say good-bye to them that night as they headed back to Chicago. We were all exhausted from our late night so hunkered down and watch Why Him. Hilarious.

The next day, the boys had to go back to school already! Yuck. It's been so brutal cold out, so you don't want to spend much time outside. We had a delicious, relaxing lunch at Bavette, then went to the Milwaukee Art Museum. (The crazy tapestries and sculptures are an exhibit by Jaime Hayon.) Later, we had dinner at Wolf Peach with the boys, then watched another movie -- Ingrid Goes West.  Today was back to normal. Brian went back to work. He dropped Greg & Yvonne off on the way. It's been a great holiday season, for sure.

We've been so lucky over the years to have out-of-town friends who have decided to visit us to ring in the New Year. It's absolutely my favorite way to celebrate. This year, Yvonne & Greg were in town for a few days from LA, and Bill & Raluca came up from Chicago. We drank too much great wine & amazing champagne (seriously, the best I've ever had) and stayed up way too late. It was awesome!

Menu:
Chorizo-Stuffed Bacon-Wrapped Dates
Cheeses (the Harbison from Jasper Hill Farm was crazy good)
Butternut Squash Bartlett Pear Soup
Roast Carrot & Avocado Salad, Crunchy Seeds, Sour Cream, Citrus Vinaigrette
Lamb Chops with Roasted Beets & Fennel
Cherry Pavlova (adapted from this recipe)
