Moments 06 20 :: Week 04

lastweek062620
On Father's Day, C got up and made us breakfast. Avocado toast with an egg, cantaloupe with mint, and hash browns, Papa style. So good.

lastweek062620-2
Then H took Brian up flying as his first passenger.

lastweek062620-3
They circled our house 3 times. It was amazing. Brian said it was a very surreal experience. I bet!

lastweek062620-4
These two. When H is around, they snuggle like this every afternoon.

lastweek062620-6
Papa and Nina, Christie, Jacob, his girlfriend and Maia all came over for dinner. I wouldn't let them touch me.

lastweek062620-7
I'm not even kidding. We are still being very careful.

lastweek062620-8
Can't say the same for the rest of the crew.

lastweek062620-5
We had a great day. I'm just so happy it's nice outside so we can get together a bit more.

Social distance dining.

Was turning the lights off and had to take in the space. This might be my favorite "room" in the entire house.

Moments 06 20 :: Week 03

lastweek061920
The babies flew away last week. One night, I got to watch as two of them took their first flight. It was the coolest thing ever. One remained overnight. Honestly, it still had baby feathers, and wasn't nearly as developed as the others. But sure enough, the next morning Mom & Dad robin was coaxing it out of the nest and it left too. It wasn't as graceful as the others. It basically fell from our ledge into the grass. Right away one of the parents was there to get it to as safe place. I guess this is common, as it turns out. The whole few weeks have been absolutely fascinating, if you ask me.

lastweek061920-2
Monday night we heard lots of cars and chanting and were excited to see one of the BLM protests come right up our street. We stood at the end of our driveway cheering them on. A little girl gave us a sign she made. The group cheered for us to walk with them. H & Brian took part. The whole thing was extremely moving and emotional. I had goosebumps.

lastweek061920-3
Most exciting news of the week is that this guy passed is Private Pilot test! He's official!

lastweek061920-4
We looked at the calendar last week and realized the boys and I all a day free on Friday. Turns it, it was the perfect summer day to spend at the beach.

lastweek061920-5
Met my mom there for lunch. My niece came later, followed by my sister.  I haven't seen my sister or niece since pre-pandemic. It was nice just to hang out for a bit and relax.

lastweek061920-6
Last summer we only made it out to the lake once. Hoping the slower summer means more of this.

lastweek061920-7
It's definitely a happy place during the summer. We are so lucky.

Moments 06 20 :: Week 02

lastweek061220
Spent a little time over the weekend paddle boarding. It felt amazing.

lastweek061220-2
First time getting together with friends. Check out John & Pat's dog, Sequoia, swimming. She's so funny.

lastweek061220-3
Still walking a lot with Gretel. There's nothing more soothing than water, in my opinion.

lastweek061220-4
H and I dropped off his books, and picked up his awards and yearbook. Yes, I did get a little weepy, especially as we drove out and the teachers were all lined up with signs. Seriously, it's not supposed to be like this.

lastweek061220-5
A few of the awards H earned.

lastweek061220-8
Look how big the babies are getting!

lastweek061220-9
Gorgeous sunset.

lastweek061220-10
Hi again! How can you not take a million pictures when this is right outside your window?

Moments 06 20 :: Week 01

lastweek060520-2
H's last day of school was last Friday! We celebrated with these shirts (designed by Brian, and printed by our friend Bob), steak dinner, and....

lastweek060520
Cake!

lastweek060520-3
Hard to see due to the mess the mama bird made on our windows, but there are four beautiful robin eggs here.

So, the big project that's been happening around here is a new bathroom. Honestly, it felt strange because we started right as COVID hit. We've been -- and still are -- being very cautious, and having people in our house felt weird. Fortunately, it was the same 1-2 people. Just kept our distance and did a lot of cleaning. Here's the before images. C's bathroom was the green one. The tile has been crumbling and the toilet doesn't work. The shower is in the middle, and has leaked onto our dining table for years. It's gotten so bad that the boys have been able to use it since November and we had to take part of our ceiling out downstairs. The blue bathroom is H's side. It was a unique, odd layout that just didn't make sense to reproduce.

lastweek060520-4
Instead, we moved the doors and turned it into one bathroom. I'm in love with it. The bathtub was the green side.

lastweek060520-7
Shower on the blue side. I almost want to pinch myself every day. It's amazing. Fortunately our bathroom is getting done soon too.

lastweek060520-8
We have babies! Two of the four eggs hatched. Yay!

lastweek060520-9
Big nose.

lastweek060520-10
Gretel sleeps in H's room 99% of the nights. Not sure what she's going to do come Fall.

lastweek060520-11
Brian and I took the motorcycle for a coffee date Thursday morning. So fun.

lastweek060520-12
On Wednesday & Thursday, the Senior class was videotaped crossing the stage in case of a virtual graduation. Each student was given five minutes to walk and accept their fake diploma. We drove H there to snap a few photos of this handsome guy in his cap and gown.

lastweek060520-13
I'm not going to lie, I really had to hold it together. Graduation was supposed to be this weekend. Not like this. They are still hoping for an in-person ceremony of some sort in July. I hope so too. This would be a big milestone to miss.

lastweek060520-14
Look at the babies now! Only two days later. Both are losing their pink and getting feathers. One is definitely growing big faster.
