Another Night Out

We were supposed to meet our friend Yvonne in Chicago tonight. She is in town visiting from L.A. Our date night has been on the calendar for weeks. Unfortunately, the last couple weeks have been so busy, and last minute, our plans didn't work out. I haven't seen Yvonne in a couple years, and she's one of those people I need a fix of every now and then. We were bummed. But Brian and I decided to take advantage of the situation, and still go out. After all, soccer starts next week. School starts in a couple weeks. And when that happens, it's definitely hard to find a spare moment. We decided to drive to the Bayview area (which is super cool by the way), and eat at Pastiche Bistro. We hadn't made a reservation (I guess in the winter you need to make them 2-3 weeks out), but there was room at the bar for us to eat. It was perfect. The bartender was great, and really paired some nice wines with our meal (and a beer for Brian). We started with the Charcouterie Plate, then Brian had the Steak Frites, and I had the Skate fish. Both meals were delicious. Wish we could have saved room for dessert, because those looked amazing too. Instead, we went for a drink at The Palm Tavern, which is just a couple doors down. Two different people at the restaurant had mentioned it, so we figured we might as well check it out. We were the only ones there, and the beer and whiskey selections were amazing. In fact, we were handed a binder to make our pick. I ended up with Éphémère Apple by Unibroue, a brewery out of Quebec. Delicious. Besides the fact that we didn't see Yvonne, it really was a perfect night.
