Finally -- I was picked to chaperone a field trip! C and the rest of the second grade were able to go to the Mitchell Park Conservatory (aka, "The Domes") today. I remember this field trip always being one of my favorites, and my little group and I really had a great time.

When I was in the second grade (in No. IL), we took a field trip to the Milwaukee Zoo. Unloaded the bus and the heavens opened up -- we were drenched in minutes. Obviously the zoo was out. So the teacher called around and got us into the Domes. The administrator, seeing 2 dozen soaked, sad little faces, gave us a tour and free lunches (as our paper sack ones were obliterated in the monsoon.) I remember touring the desert dome (is that still there?) first to dry out. I recall few field trips from my childhood, but that one has a special place in my heart.
