New Year's Eve! We all went to John's Island to stop at a butcher before visiting the Angel Oak. Estimated to be between 300-400 years old, the way the limbs reach the ground is pretty crazy. Afterwards, Brian and I took a walk along the beach. We even ran into a shelter dog named Rain! This is the second year the family stopped by the Charleston Animal Society and fostered a shelter dog while they are on vacation for the week. I love it! It also must work, because I noticed Rain wasn't on the website by the time we got home, and she mentioned their dog last year got adopted too! So amazing. Needless to say, it made my day. After a little rest, it was time to start prepping dinner, which was incredible as you can imagine. The Elsmo's spoiled us again with caviar -- and Penny has become a fan. Brian made some delicious grilled oysters with miso butter. We had mushrooms, steak and scallops. I made a salad. Chris contributed delicious cheesy grits. Bert's grocery store supplied dessert. It's such a treat to have people who love to cook on vacation. Thanks Mel and Brian! Around 11:15pm, we decided to walk the 1 mile from our rental to downtown Folly Beach and witness the Flip Flop Drop. We watched from the less crowded, but still eventful, back side. The whole thing is just so funny. I love being in Folly Beach to ring in the new year. And I really loved getting to celebrate it with these incredible friends, Happy 2026!
