A Visit from Nina

Truth is, I've been under the weather since Friday. And Brian's out of town. The boys and I were thankful to have a quiet weekend planned, but I was more than thrilled when my mom suggested visiting today. We took the boys for hair cuts, ate at Papaspiros, and she played with the H & C while I looked through old photos from my grandparents. It was what the doctor ordered. And now, after watching Enchanted for the second time this weekend, I'm going to bed.

Rainy Saturday

More rain! We made crepes in the morning (Nutella and cinnamon & sugar). We went grocery shopping. We saw Up in 3D (very cute -- unfortunately, we were late so had first row). Then it stopped raining so we played in the mud and took showers before dinner.

Hot Dog with Ketchup

During our last trip to Kiddieland, we spotted this sign for the condiment station. I can't say I've noticed it before, but I'm sure it's not new. A little odd. A lot funny.

Umbrellas

It was slightly cold and rainy again today. We came home to a plate of chocolate chip cookies the babysitter and kids made. I really like her. (Cute umbrellas from Raindrops via Oh Happy Day.)

Trouble

Is it just me, or does this guy have "trouble" written all over? P.S. Do you like C's photograph smile?

First Day of Summer Break

(Stormy Weather by H)

I'm so excited for the kids. We have a babysitter this summer . They will go to child care for a day a week, and the rest of the time, they get to sleep in late, lounge in their pajamas and go to the pool. Which is exactly what they did today. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't super cooperative, and it rained most of the day. But, I think it will be a great summer.

Trains at Day in Our Village

Our non-stop weekend continued the entire day. Brian left before 4:30 a.m. for the Rockman Triathlon. While he was doing that, the boys and I went to a birthday party in the city. By the time we came home, Brian was home (and tired) so we made a quick visit to Day in Our Village before I had to whisk C away to yet another birthday party. Day in Our Village is the day that the trains in our nearby park come out. The boys go nuts over them, and I can completely see why. Aren't they great? Hopefully there will be a lot of train riding this summer!

Kiddieland

Today was the Spring Kiddieland fundraiser for C's school. It's something we've looked forward to for five years now, and especially did this time since it's closing this Fall (it's official -- September 27th is the last day of operation per their website -- their lease for the land runs out.). The few hours were were there was fun and all, but let me tell you something. It was cold! And raining on and off. We got to ride most of our favorites, and we stayed until we had to go (to H's 1st grade party), but did I mention it was cold? Still, it was fun, and I'm going to be so sad to see this favorite place go.

Farmer's Market

The Farmer's Market has been open for a couple weeks now, but we made it over for the first time today. We ate donuts, listened to music, picked up some flowers and food. C discovered a great goat cheese, so I bought it. But we never got to eat it, since somewhere along the way, he lost it. Next time, it goes straight into my bag.

Last Day of School

It's official. Summer break is here! H went to school for a total of one hour today. I took the day off and spent the day with him. It was great. Tradition has it, that on the last day of each school year, the teachers do a dance. It was fun. I hung out on the play lot and drank coffee with other parents, then after school was officially out, H and I went to the bead store for beads for H's necklace (that's what C did on a recent Dad-C day too). Then we took the train downtown and met Brian for lunch at the new super-duper Whole Foods right by his work. It's pretty crazy. Good stuff. We came back, made a stop at the conservatory, then picked C up early. Early evening was the school party in the park. But I don't have pictures of that. We were too busy making sure the kids were within site. Now, it's time for a little (late) dinner, movie and bed. It was a great year, and now, I can't wait for summer.

Candied Popcorn

If you like feeding your kids lots of sugar, this is a perfect snack for you. Seriously, 6 cups of sugar! But since it's the end of the school year, I caved in. It's sweet. The kids loved it, and actually, it's not something you can eat a lot of so it's really not too bad (yes it is, oh well). The recipe suggests food coloring -- which I didn't add. Next time (did I just say that?), I will. Most of the color fades when it bakes. H likes the strawberry (red) best and doesn't like the lime. C likes the lime (green) best and doesn't like the strawberry. Of course. (Recipe found on Conversations with a Cupcake).

Teacher Gift

Friday is the last day of school. Tomorrow H will be giving his teacher this gift we made. Well, I made -- he picked out the flower and planted it. It's painted with chalkboard paint, and was very easy to make, but turned out very cute. I hope she likes it. He had a great 1st grade year ... for sure.

Broken

When I picked C up from child care tonight, here's what he had to say about his day:

C. Mom, me have bad day.

Me. Why?

C. Someone fell on me and my lip bleed.

Me. I heard.

C. And me tell on E and S (his girlfriends). Why? They laughing at me.

Me. Oh no.

C. Yeah, me tell teacher, E and S, they breaking my heart. (sigh) That's why.

This one lives in Wisconsin now. H gave it to my parents when we visited them this weekend.
