New Year's Day! Brian, Chris, Penny and I all dressed up in our Life Aquatic costumes and headed down to Pinky's for the annual Bill Murray Polar Plunge, with Leif as our photographer and witness. We somehow messed up the time, so arrived an hour early. But it secured us decent parking and time for a cuba libra before hopping in the frigid waters. The ocean was in the 50s, but who am I kidding. It was so much better than the Wisconsin Polar Bear Plunges we've been doing. Even Cole passed it up this year, as the outside temperature was only 12 degrees. We couldn't complain at all about our conditions. We've always jumped in the ocean on New Year's Day, but never partook in the scheduled festivities. Thousands of people show up for this. It's so much fun. We were all pretty pooped after our late night before, so lots of naps and football watching were had throughout the rest of the day. At night, we walked over to the beach -- which is less than a block away from our house by the way -- to catch the sunset. It was absolutely stunning. Afterwards, we came back and made a delicious dinner. I had brought the supplies for Marcus Samuelsson's Black-Eyed Peas with Coconut Milk and Ethiopian Spices to ensure our luck and prosperity for the new year. Mel added to it by making chicken thighs that were incredible. It was such a nice, comforting meal. Must means a good year ahead.
